Simon Spier, a 16-year-old, is secretly gay and communicates online with another closeted boy named "Blue". When an email falls into the wrong hands, Simon is blackmailed: he must play wingman for a classmate, or his secret will be revealed. This forces Simon to confront his identity and navigate complicated relationships with friends and the possibility of meeting Blue.
